Financial Support for Visiting the University
The University encourages all prospective students to visit our campus to see our facilities, but we recognise that the financial cost of visiting universities can be a concern.
We would therefore like to offer support with the travel costs associated with visiting the University of Suffolk for those who travel a significant distance (a round trip of at least 150 miles) OR meet widening participation criteria (as defined below):
- First generation to HE (parents/carers did not go to university)
- From a household income below £42,600
- From a military family
- Are or have been in local authority care
- Have a specific learning difficulty or disability
- Are from an ethnic minority group
Prospective students who meet the above criteria OR live 75 miles or more from the Ipswich campus (round trip of 150 miles or more), can apply for reimbursement of up to £50 against their travel costs. We will normally consider students attending an Open Day, Interview/Portfolio Review, or an Applicant Visit (including course-specific 'Meet the Team' events).
Students must pay for travel costs upfront and then submit a travel expenses form with proof of costs (e.g. relevant receipts/booking confirmations). Assessments for eligibility will be made by the Admissions Manager and Head of Access.
Individuals wishing to claim this support must meet the relevant criteria. Paper expenses forms can be requested from the Student Centre on the day of the visit and should be submitted on the same day with relevant receipts confirming the cost of travel. Forms can be requested after the visit by getting in touch with the Student Centre.
Any expenses forms submitted by email after the visit must be returned to the University within 28 days of the visit.
Mileage will be paid at the rate of 45p per mile.
Payments will normally be made directly to the applicant's bank account within four weeks of submission. Please get in touch with the Admissions Team if you would like to check your eligibility for this support or for more information.
