Access to HE Diploma Requirements

All University of Suffolk courses require applicants to pass the 60 credits and achieve the HE Diploma.

Some Ipswich-based courses also require applicants undertaking an Access to HE Diploma to meet specific grade requirements and to obtain GCSE Maths and English or equivalent. The information below is a guide but you should also check the course page carefully.

A minimum of 30 Level 3 credits at merit grade or above will be required for the following courses:

  • BA/BSc (Hons) Psychology, Sociology, and Criminology (all single and joint honours routes at Ipswich)
  • LLB/BSc (Hons) Law routes (all single and joint honours routes at Ipswich)
  • BSc (Hons) Sport degrees
  • BSc (Hons) Nursing (all branches)
  • BA (Hons) Social Work
  • BSc (Hons) Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy

A minimum of 45 Level 3 credits at merit grade or above will be required for:

  • BSc (Hons) Midwifery
  • BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography
  • BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science
  • BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy
  • BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy and Oncology

Where GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or their equivalents are required (i.e. for professional health courses), we can only accept level 2 Numeracy and Literacy if they are specified within the transcript under these exact titles. This means that we cannot accept Communication Skills in place of Literacy. If these qualifications are not specified within your transcript then you will be expected to undertake them alongside your Access course in order to meet the academic requirements.

If you have any questions about our requirements please contact the Student Centre.
