Overview
The MA Professional Practice: Integrated Care program is a customized postgraduate degree aimed at supporting the development of inspirational leaders within integrated care systems. The course offers students the opportunity to build upon their existing knowledge of health and care, which will enhance their daily professional practice as leaders of integrated services.
It will also enable them to incorporate academically informed, evidence-based performance in the workplace, thereby changing attitudes and perceptions and encouraging new approaches that support health and care delivery. Contemporary practice signifies a distinct shift toward integrated care for preventive, outcome-based health and care solutions that meet the needs of people, stakeholders, and governance requirements. This course is designed to provide learning that promotes inclusive, values-based, and sustainable care delivery within a political and evidence-based context.
This Master's program is designed to empower students to contextualize, lead, and transform integrated care services to enhance the quality of outcomes for individuals, professionals, and organizations. Students will develop enhanced leadership and coaching skills, along with a critical understanding of public health and care complexities, in both regional and national contexts. Collaborating with other students will provide an opportunity to generate insights and explore professional experiences to enrich learning and insights from the health and care arena. Applicants would be expected to be employed within a relevant role in the health and care sector.

This module has been adapted from Suffolk Mind’s well established ‘CARES (Crisis Advice & Recovery – Enhanced Support) training programme. Through partnership working, the University of Suffolk and Suffolk Mind. Contemporary health and social care practice denotes a distinctive shift towards integrated holistic care for preventative, outcome-based health and care solutions which meets the needs of people, stakeholders and governance requirements.

This 20-credit module is offered at Level 7, as an optional or stand-alone module. The healthcare environment is ever-changing, with the requirement of the workforce to navigate diverse challenges. This module develops the healthcare practitioner to act as an advocate, promoting equitable, safe and person-centred care. The module additionally supports many of the goals outlined in key healthcare strategies, such as the NHS Long Term Plan, by focusing on workforce sustainability, patient safety and integrated care. By becoming a professional advocate, healthcare professionals contribute to creating a resilient, future ready workforce.
The module provides the structured training necessary to understand and navigate complex healthcare systems, address individual and systemic barriers to care and represent the voice of vulnerable populations and ensure their needs are met. Learning will explore the tools and frameworks necessary to do this, such as the AEQUIP model. This encourages a culture of self-care and team cohesion, reducing burn-out through structured support mechanisms, restorative clinical supervision, and psychological safety. You will be able to develop essential leadership skills to lead change initiatives in healthcare settings, influence policies and decisions to enhance patient outcomes and foster interdisciplinary collaboration to address complex healthcare challenges.

Facilities and Resources
The Health and Wellbeing building provides students with a variety of state-of-the-art clinical simulation facilities, including two simulated hospital wards, a midwifery birthing unit, physiotherapy teaching spaces, a sports and exercise facility and a working radiography imaging suite. The building also hosts the Institute of Health and Wellbeing Research and the Integrated Care Academy.
