The Rt Revd Martin Seeley

Martin Seeley became Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich in the Spring of 2015, after nine years as Principal of Westcott House, a theological college in Cambridge.  Living in Ipswich, with the Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds and responsibilities covering most of the county, he has quickly discovered the beauty and diversity of Suffolk.

He is responsible for the 446 parishes and around 160 serving clergy in the Diocese.  He has immersed himself in many aspects of Suffolk life, responding to needs and encouraging communities at local and county levels. 

He served as the Vicar of the Isle of Dogs in East London for ten years until 2006 and before that worked at the Church of England’s central offices in Westminster. He served the church in the United States for ten years before that, after a curacy in Scunthorpe. He was educated at Cambridge, Oxford and Union Theological Seminary, New York City.

He is married to the Reverend Jutta Brueck, Priest in Charge of St Thomas’ Ipswich, and they have two teenage children, Anna and Luke
