Lawrence Woolston started his career in professional photography in 1989 and worked for 20 years in commercial studios and photographic laboratories covering many areas of commercial and social photography. Since arriving at the University in 2009 Lawrence has managed all aspects of technical support. He leads the technical team whilst overseeing the day to day running of the Photography Studio and darkrooms.
Area of expertise
Having grown up in an era of film Lawrence has a wealth of experience in photography. He is equally qualified in both analogue and digital photography, studio, darkroom and digital print. Lawrence designed the current university studio, darkroom and digital facilities. He is what you could describe as an expert in his field.
Professional practice
Along with his work to lead, manage and develop the Technical team in Arts supporting the School of Technology, Business and Arts, Lawrence is also engaged with TMU (Technical Managers Universities). TMU is a voluntary association of technical managers, team leaders and supervisors from across the higher education sector. Sharing best practice across the UK Higher Education sector. Currently he is working with the IST to bring about national registration for Art Technicians.
His photographic practice currently encompasses archiving his travel images photographed 25 years ago. Lawrence also takes on Photographic commissions and distributes his images internationally through stock libraries and Art websites.
