The Award Winners

A team which focuses on student employability at the University of Suffolk has won a national award for its collaboration with a recruitment expert.

The Careers, Employability and Enterprise (CEE) team at the University of Suffolk are celebrating after their partnership with Hays Recruitment won the Innovative Employer Engagement Activity award at the UK Career Development Awards 2024, held in Derby this week.

Each year, the Career Development Institute celebrates outstanding achievements in the sector with a range of awards for individuals and institutions.

Hays and the CEE Team have co-delivered sessions on personal branding, including workshops on CV writing, leveraging LinkedIn for job search, and assessment centres.

They have also provided valuable insights into roles and recruitment in the tech sector.

Cathy Johnson, Placement Consultant in the CEE team said: “We are so thrilled to win this award.

“The judges commended the project for its innovative approach and substantial impact, aligning with our long-term goals of creating career-focused sessions that resonate with students.

“By embedding employer engagement within the curriculum, the project enriches current practices and significantly boosts student employability.”

Sonia Brito, Careers and Employability Consultant at the University said: “We are absolutely delighted to have received this award.

“Preparing our students for the rapidly changing workplace is at the core of our award-winning partnership.

“We are proud of what we've achieved together with Hays, and are committed to continuing this collaboration to further improve the student experience.”

Leon Scott, IT Recruitment Consultant with Hays commented: “Partnering with the University of Suffolk allows us to support local individuals with the very best of skill sets to support businesses within Suffolk.

“Skill shortages are rife and with the growing competition with areas such as Norfolk and Essex, this allows us to retain talent within Suffolk and build on these moving forward.”

This award is the second won this year by the CEE team after it won the Submission Award Category, focussing on career coaching and work placements, at the WhatUni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs).
