Laura is an example of a home grown student; following her early career in travel and tourism, she returned to Suffolk to study in her mid-thirties as a parent of two boys, so she understands the challenges faced by mature students.
On graduation with a 1st class degree in Media and Literary Studies she became news editor at Suffolk and Essex Business Magazines for Archant Newspapers.
She returned to academia to be a researcher in the educational applications of telematics at CREATE, the research centre at Suffolk, and moved into teaching in the Business School. Events and Tourism management were her specialism, and her Masters is in Arts Management.
She also supported a work-based degree in Leadership and Management. She became a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader
A great believer in active learning. Laura facilitated many opportunities for students to engage in real life projects, such as many conferences managed at Trinity Park Conference Centre, and festival stages in Ipswich.
She left the University in 2017, but the organization has remained in her heart; she had had an active role in supporting the development of the University, and she is passionate about the value of the institution to Ipswich and the wider county of Suffolk. She has continued supporting the University of Suffolk through occasional lecturing and as a Visiting Fellow.
She is a presenter and Director of Felixstowe Community Radio, and has established an event operation Felixstowe Festival Events, which runs the successful programme of events known as WAMfest (Women Arts and Music) Felixstowe.
