Dr Alison MacFadyen

Visiting Senior Fellow in Microbiology

School/Directorate
School of Allied Health Sciences

Alison's past research positions have covered many research areas, from Industrial Biotechnology to Environmental Engineering and most recently Molecular Epidemiology.  These roles have allowed Alison to apply my skills in molecular microbiology and computational biology.

Alison is interested in microbial interactions, with a particular focus on inter-species interactions and co-evolution.  One focus of Alison's research is the co-evolution of Staphylococcus aureus and non-aureus staphylococci, to ascertain the role non-aureus staphylococci play in the acquisition of resistance and virulence genes by S. aureus.

In Alison's role at The Sainsbury Laboratory, she provides computational support to further our understanding of plant-microbe interactions. Alison is also an active member of the Microbiology Society and volunteer for the RNLI as inshore lifeboat crew.
