Robert has joined the Suffolk Sustainability Institute to undertake research into the experience of tenants and landlords in Suffolk's private rented housing sector. The research, which has a particular focus on the link between housing and health, is part of the Safe Suffolk Renters project, a collaboration between the five district councils and is funded by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Prior to joining the university, Robert worked for 30 years in housing and leadership roles at local authorities in London and Norfolk, before studying for a Masters in Sociology and a PhD researching community land trusts. His research interests include the notion of home and the various ways it is experienced, conceptions of community and the connection with home, health and housing, and housing inequality.

Robert has presented his work at various academic conferences including the Housing Studies Association and the Royal Geographical Society.
