Dr Karen Chumbley is a Visiting Senior Fellow in End of Life Care.

Karen is the Clinical Lead for End of Life Care for the Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care system. She graduated in medicine in 1995 from Imperial College London and has been a practising GP in Colchester for 20 years where she developed an interest in End of Life Care, initially taking a clinical leadership role in North East Essex in 2013.

Karen was the Clinical Director at St Helena Hospice from 2015 to 2020 and the Deputy CEO from 2019 to 2020. She has an interest in inequalities in palliative and end of life care and has spoken at national conferences and to a parliamentary committee to raise awareness on this issue.

Karen was appointed as the North East Essex Health and Wellbeing Alliance lead for End of Life care in 2018 and leads the developing population approach to improve outcomes and address inequalities for people approaching the end of life, and was appointed as the Clinical Lead in End of Life Care for the Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care System in January 2022. She is also a GP Training Programme Director for the Colchester programme and continues to work as a GP in Rowhedge Surgery and is the clinical lead for residents in two care homes.
